Tips to help you on your used car search
The first thing you have to decide when looking for a used car is the type of car that is suited for your needs. While a low, flashy sports model might look good, is it really suitable for your needs? And when it comes to insuring it, will it cost you an arm and a leg to do so?Once you have determined which type of car, make and model, you will then have to decide on what extras you prefer the car to have, such as electric windows, sun roof, CD player etc. When you have narrowed all this down then you can begin the search for the car of your dreams.
There are many ways you can buy a used car; however whichever way you choose to go you should start out online. By looking online through the various listings for used cars you can get an excellent idea of how much the make and model you are looking for will cost you. This is an excellent way of making sure you don't get ripped off if you choose to go privately for your used car.
Whether you choose to buy from a used car showroom or a private individual you will want to take a test drive in the car. This is the only way you are able to hear the engine and see how the cars feels and handles and can tell you a lot. Pay special attention to the sound of the engine and the feel of the gearbox when on your test drive. Look out for any blindspots.
Whenever possible go take a look at the car in good light. If you are buying privately and they insist that you go at night to see the car in poor light then take this as a warning sign that there is something wrong they don't want you to see. If buying privately then make sure you see all the relevant paperwork associated with the history of the car.
If you don't know anything about cars then it could be in your best interests to take someone with you who does, such as a mechanic. Although this will cost, in the long run it could be worth it, particularly if you are buying privately. While you can get a good bargain and there are many honest people out there, there are also the ones who would sell anything to anybody, so it is essential to be aware of this and to know what you are getting yourself into. While the car might look good on the outside, the inner workings could be a whole different story.
Above all take your time and don't feel rushed into buying. Very often salesmen will tell you there are others interested in the car as a way to get you to pay up. Take your time and make sure you are getting what you want and that it is in good working order before handing over your hard earned cash.
